I don't have to tell you what a giant eBay has become. You don't have to become an "auction house," but you can start an auction on your web site. The type of auction could be related to the theme of your site. You'll draw traffic from auctioneers and bidders and they have LOTS of friends!
Strategy #4 -The Sincerest Form of Flattery
There are dozens, probably hundreds, of "self-help" books out there with titles like "The Thinking Patterns of Successful People" and "How Seven People Each Lost 100 Pounds." They're popular because the best way to succeed is to model yourself on other successful business or people. Learn how your "heroes" got where they are and follow in their footsteps.
Strategy #5 - Be A Risk Taker, But A Smart Risk Taker
Taking a risk may be scary, but without risk business life offers very few rewards. Sometimes you have to risk money to get results. Just remember to look before you leap and make sure you know where you're going to land. If you're going to pay a P.R. firm to do your marketing, for example, do a thorough "background check" and make sure you're getting the best for your money.
Strategy #6 - Winning Hearts and Minds
Include emotional words in your advertisements. Use ones like love, security, relief, freedom, happy, satisfaction, fun, etc.
Strategy #7 - That's Two Thumbs Way Up
Ask people online to review your web site. Positive comments or negative, they're all good! Someone who gives positive feedback is now a likely customer. Negative comments aren't published, of course, but they can be used as springboards to improve your web site.
Strategy #8 - Do What You're Good At
Too many professionals get overloaded doing things that don't Make money and don't further business. Instead of trying to be a one-man-band, outsource part of your workload: secretarial work, accounting, marketing, etc. In addition to giving yourself more time to do what you're good at, outsourcing relieves you of tax reporting, health benefits, etc.
Strategy #9 - One From Column A, Two From Column B
Combine a product and service together in a package deal. If you're selling a book, offer an hour of consulting with it. If you install roofing, offer a combination package with rain gutters. To make the deal irresistible, the combination price must be significantly lower than "if purchased individually."
New ideas are usually the difference between success and failure. Remember to take a little time out of to brainstorm. It's time well-spent!

Don't Do That!
I'm going to show you how you can do it without spending a single dime.
You're customers are happy with what you do for them right? If not you should do a better job so they are.
And when you're finished with the job you can say something like "How's that look?" they say it looks great...then you tell them the benefit of what it will do "That will keep the structure from collapsing in on itself. You really caught this in time" Then they say "Yeah I guess I sure did, thank you so much"
Then you say "I'm glad I could help you, and since I did such a good job for you, I'd like to do the same quality work for other people that you know. Who do you know that you can give me a reccomendation or referral to?"
Right there you have gotten consent to get a reccomendation from this person to other people he knows. You're getting leads for new business with no lead cost.
And you can even add incentive for referrals by knocking a few bucks off your price for each referral given.
Now some of you may have cringed at that last statement "I don't want to give away money" but the fact is that it's an investment.
Will all of the referrals turn up winners, no of course not...but some will...and the fee they pay you will cover the bucks you knocked off the last guy and net you more business without the cost of aquiring the lead.
That way, you can increase business without any money...AND you increase your profits without having to work longer.

If you're having difficulty selling to potential customers, one problem might be that they don't believe what you're telling them. Would you buy from someone you didn't believe? Probably not. So it's clear that your own credibility is critical to a successful sale.
You have to establish your credibility in the eyes of your potential customer for a successful sale (via person, a sales letter, ad, website, etc.). There are a number of ways to show people that what you say is true and solid.
Out of all of the following suggestions, you can take the ones that you feel can work for you, and put a lot of emphasis on them in your marketing material.
1) Customer and client lists: An excellent way to demonstrate to potential clients how long you've been in business, and how many clients you've served over that period of time. This has to been done carefully because you don't want to infringe on the privacy rights of your customers (so it's wise to ask permission to print their name on your customer list).
2) Length of time in business: Show people you are for REAL, not a fly-by-night, come-and-go business type. Obviously the longer you've been in business, the better. I'm sure you've often seen signs on storefronts saying "Established 1867" or some equivalent. Would you feel more comfortable buying from a well-established business? Probably. They're trying to show you their longstanding business solidity.
3) Past credentials, qualifications, and experience: They establish you as a person who is qualified to discuss with people whatever topic is on hand. For example, what more credibility could come from a person trying to sell you a tennis racket as someone who has won the Wimbledon twice and the U.S. Tennis Open three time times? There's no question in your mind that this person knows what he's talking about when it comes to his product. Or a real estate agent who happens to be an experienced contractor- you'll believe what he says when it comes to houses and what you're getting for your money.
4) Financial references: Commonly used to show people how successful you are in what you do. The number says it all. If you went to a eyeglass store, and there was a sign in there telling you that this little store did $800,000 of business last year, you'd probably think that this store is doing something right in their business. Your logic will tell you that whatever they say you'll believe.
5) A count of the regions/cities/countries that your business serves: What would seem bigger in your eyes- a local vacuum cleaner store selling in a small town or a vacuum cleaner store that services 7 provinces and 3 other countries as well? These numbers can help your credibility.
6) The number of customers served: You can use the now-famous technique that MacDonalds uses- I once passed by one franchise and I saw that MacDonalds now has a tally of 99 BILLION customers served!! The number of customers you have of course ties in with the longevity and reliability of your business.
7) Show someone how good your product is: Show them! Sometimes with products you can do a physical demonstration or a video that displays the actual features and benefits of the products. For example, if you're selling vacuum cleaners, you can make a video commercial of your product sucking up all the garbage from the carpet. If you sell knives, do a demo of how well your knife cuts through plastic or some fruit or vegetable. And so on.
8) Testimonials: Long established as one of the most powerful credibility boosters in the marketing world. Let someone else speak for you! Testimonials come in many forms. Written testimonials can be published. Video or audio testimonials can be played. Photographic testimonials (e.g. If you had numerous photos of you standing beside satisfied customers, that is a great way to show people that you have customers and they believe in you). When you allow other people to speak for you about your product or service, the credibility is always increased by at least a few points.
9) "Story books": A less common, but just as powerful, form of credibility-booster that tell the story of your customer, how they began, how your product or service came into the picture, and how your customer's problems were solved or desired satisfied. The level of detail in the story allows it to rise above the normal 3-sentence testimonial in terms of credibility.
10) Another type of testimonial that are under-exploited are toll-free 800 "eavesdrop lines" to give clients and customers a chance to listen in on what others say about your product or service.
11) And finally, many of the mediums above- writings, audio, and video- for all the different types of credibility boosters can be put online in websites and email attachments.
Once you've established your credibility hopefully beyond doubt, then you will have customers who are ready to hear what you have to say and are more likely to buy your product or hire you for your services.

Calculating cash flow is one of the most important tasks of the business owner. Revenue and expenses are rarely constant in a business and cash requirements need to be planned for shortfalls, seasonal factors or one time large payments. At the end of the day, a company that cannot pay its bills is bankrupt. Unfortunately, while many business owners concentrate solely on their revenues and expenses to manage their cash flow, it’s usually poor management of the cash conversion cycle that so often leads to a cash crunch in the business.
What is the cash conversion cycle and why should I be concerned with it?
The cash conversion cycle is simply the duration of time it takes a firm to convert its activities requiring cash back into cash returns. The cycle is composed of the three main working capital components: Accounts Receivable outstanding in days (ARO), Accounts Payable outstanding in days (APO) and Inventory in days (IOD). The Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC) is equal to the time is takes to sell inventory and collect receivables less the time it takes to pay your payables, or:
CCC = IOD + ARO APO
Why is this cycle important? Because it represents the number of days a firm's cash remains tied up within the operations of the business. It is also a powerful tool for assessing how well a company is managing its working capital. The lower the cash conversion cycle, the more healthy a company generally is. If you compare the results of the cycle over time and see a rising trend it is often a warning sign that the business may be facing a cash flow crunch.
Understanding the components of the cycle
When evaluating cash flow, those factors directly affecting profit, revenue and expenses, are easy to understand and their affect on cash is straight forward; decreases in costs or increases in profit margin results in less cash going out or more cash coming in, and increased Profits.
However, the working capital components of the CCC are a little more complex. In simple terms, an increase in the amount of time accounts receivables are outstanding uses up cash, a decrease provides cash; an increase in the amount of inventory uses cash, a decrease provides cash; an increase in the amount of time it takes you to pay your payables provides cash, a decrease uses cash.
For example, a decision to buy more inventory will use up cash, or a decision to allow people to pay for goods or services over 60 days instead of 30 days will mean you have to wait longer for payment, and will have less cash on hand. Below is a numerical example of the cycle:
Accounts Receivable outstanding in days +90 Inventory in days +60 Accounts Payable outstanding in days -72 Cash Conversion Cycle +78
In the scenario, you have cash tied up for 78 days. It should be noted that you can have a negative conversion cycle. If this occurs it means that you are selling your inventory and collecting your receivables before you have to pay your payables. An ideal situation if you able to accomplish this. Before you say it is impossible, remember that companies such as Wal-Mart are today selling a large part of their inventory before they have to pay for it. While it is not easy it can be accomplished.
An Example
Let's assume you buy on trade credit from your supplier and an account payable is created. Your supplier wants full payment in 30 days, however, you are selling inventory very fast, sell the inventory a week later and are asking for full payment from your buyer in 7 days. You are now managing your conversion cycle. Consider, on day 1 you generate an accounts payable for 30 days from now. On day 7 you sell the inventory and generate an accounts receivable, which your buyer will pay for in 7 days. What is your conversion cycle in the case? -14 days, pretty good and you congratulate yourself. On day 15, after you receive payment, you are flush with cash and have a choice of reinvesting the money or paying your supplier. What action you take will probably depend on a lot of factors, but as your supplier has provided you interest free cash for another 2 weeks, you may want to use it for those two weeks to generate greater returns; maybe you have outstanding credit you can pay down, you can buy additional inventory, or you may just want to generate interest returns.
Now consider that you also provide your buyers 30 days to pay you. On day 1 you generate an accounts payable for 30 days from now. On day 7 you sell the inventory and generate an accounts receivable, which your buyer will pay for in 30 days. What is your conversion cycle in the case? 7 days, not as good. You now have 7 days in your cycle during which you have repaid your supplier but will not receive payment for another 7 days from your buyer. You either need extra cash on hand or a credit line to support you for those 7 days.
What does this mean in terms of cash flow and your bottom line? If you have $1 million in annual sales and your receivables are outstanding an average of 60 days, that means you have $164,383 in outstanding receivables. Everyday extra day the receivables are outstanding (e.g. 61 days vs. 60 days) represents an extra $2,740 that is not available to use elsewhere. If you need a credit line to support your receivables and you pay interest at 8% that represents $13,000 in annual interest charges (expenses) based on an average loan balance of $164,000.
So, as you can see, the management of the conversion cycle can have a large impact on the business's cash flow and profitability. The management of your cash conversion cycle could determine whether you require a lending facility or not, or whether you can meet financial obligations.

The following exercise should clarify this abstract concept.
Ready? Place your pen or pencil on the table or desk in front of you. Now try to pick it up.
Did you pick up your writing utensil?
If you did, I have one thing to say, “You didn’t follow the instructions.”
You weren’t asked to pick up your pen or pencil you were asked to TRY and pick it up.
Trying will rarely produce your desired result.
How often have you said to yourself or others "I really want to accomplish my short and/or long term goals?" How many times have you followed that statement with, "and this time I’m really going to try?"
You can probably remember a project, a task, or even a New Year’s resolution that was left incomplete, about which you can sincerely say, “Well, I tried.”
You had every intention to complete the task. You remember trying to accomplish what you’d intended. You remember the task being left unfinished.
“Trying” dilutes intention.
The more you want to or try to accomplish a task, the more challenging the completion of that task becomes.
In Episode V of the Star Wars saga there is line of dialogue delivered by the character of the Jedi mentor, Yoda. Yoda gives a set of instructions to his pupil, Luke Skywalker.
Luke responds to Yoda’s instructions with the words, “I’ll try.”
Yoda counters quietly, and with conviction. He says, “Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”
I urge you to adopt this cinematic saying. Keep it close to you at all times. Make it a part of your daily action plan. Write it out. Paste it on the wall.
We all want to do the right things. We all try to do the right things. However, the mindsets of wanting and trying come with a cost.
That cost is best summed up in this excerpt from the first in a series of books entitled “Conversations with God” by Neale Donald Walsch. Walsch’s literary depiction of God shares these words, “You can not have that for which you ask. Nor can you have anything you want. The very request is a statement of lack and your saying you want produces only want in your reality.”
Here’s your success tip. Remove statements that include the words “try” and “want” from your personal vocabulary.
Those who follow my work know about the “Secret Language of Success”. This secret language does not include the statement “I’ll try.” Focus on action oriented statements like, “I’ll do the task”, or “I’ll complete the task.”
The next time you hear someone say, “’I’ll try to do the task” rather than, “I’ll do the task” make sure you ask them to clarify their plan.
Ask them to spell out clearly the steps that will result in a completed project.
Review the time frame. Discuss openly the consequences of leaving the task unfinished. You can demonstrate your support by simply asking, “What support do you need to complete the task?”
Here's an exercise designed to build up the muscle of “doing.”
Over a two week period keep a simple journal in which you log the frequency of the phrase “I’ll try” in your environment. If you’re the source of the comment, ask yourself “What specific action can I take, right away, to move the project along?”
If someone else is the source of the statement you can ask, “What might stop you from completing the task?” Bring it out in the open so it can be handled. Bring it out in the open before the frustration sets in.
If you choose to take on this homework assignment remember to say to yourself, “I’ll do this assignment” rather than, “I’ll try to do this assignment”.
Make this shift in your communications style and watch more tasks and projects get completed.
As simple as it may seem, this shift in language really makes a difference.
